Football is Coming!

We are less than a month away from regulation football, everybody!

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL, CHICAGO?

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL, CHICAGO?

Training camp is hot and happening in Bourbonnais! With a week and a half until preseason begins, the Bears face many obstacles that must be cleared in order to prepare to face-off against another team. The loss of Lovie, the departure of Urlacher, and the shaky consistency of Jay Cutler are all things that the Bears must improve in order to have a shot at the playoffs.

Steppin up!

Steppin up!

The Bears solid defense is something that needs a bit of work as they are adjusting to working without their former leader, Brian Urlacher. Tillman is looking good, Peppers is in the quarterback’s face, and Jennings is keeping himself near the ball to keep near the action. With so much speculation about how the defensive line would shape up after the losses of Urlacher and Lovie, they seem to be picking up where they left off and building on their solid foundation. Lance Briggs is stepping into Urlacher’s legendary shoes and calling plays. Mel Tucker, first year defensive coordinator for the Bears, says “[Briggs] is doing a great job with checks and the adjustments.” Maintaining solid work will definitely help the Bears on their journey to the postseason.

Bear Down, Cutler, or Bow Out

Bear Down, Cutler, or Bow Out

ESPN Chicago’s Michael C. Wright notes that Jay Cutler’s problem is not his arm. Cutler struggles with his dropbacks, delivery, and footwork. While Cutler is definitely showing signs of improvement, when asked if he could maintain his momentum, Marc Trestman said, “We’ve got to come here and remind each other each day, ‘If we’ve got two willing guys that are willing to work with each other to do it, we’ve got the best chance.” Trestman knows there is no magic bullet with Cutler; Cutler must evolve. Evolution is a slow process, but if Cutler is already showing signs of improvement, he may have a chance of keeping his job. Along with his own performance, he must teach himself not to rely heavily on Brandon Marshall. Marshall missing a few days of training camp due to a hip injury gave Cutler a way to refocus on other receivers and allowed for other receivers to give Cutler a chance to trust them on the field. If the Bears are going to work, they must work as a team, not as a dynamic duo.

Only one dynamic duo can win a Super Bowl, and you're not Batman, Jay Cutler!

Only one dynamic duo can win a Super Bowl, and you’re not Batman, Jay Cutler!

The breakout star of training camp is Kyle Long. Reports coming from Bourbonnais say #75 is an amazing defender and a great asset to the team. He spent the offseason working on mixed martial arts fighting techniques to improve balance and stamina. He still has a lot of work to do to beat out James Brown for the starting right guard position, but he remains optimistic and focused. “I’m playing a game that kids play for fun,” Long said, “We’re blessed enough to be able to get paid. It feels great.” Training camp is fantastic, but he must really shine bright when the preseason begins August 9th.

The Stanley Cup’s Summer Vacation

Still partying hard!

Still partying hard!

Well, it’s time for Round Two of what the Stanley Cup has been up to with the Chicago Blackhawks. The last time we took a moment to catch up with the Cup, it had been doing the morning show circuit, visiting a children’s hospital, meeting its meaty Doppelgänger, meeting David Letterman, and hitting summer concerts with Jimmy Buffett and Rush! That’s a lot for Lord Stanley’s Cup. However, a few more players have gotten their turn to take the Cup out for a day, and if there’s one thing the Blackhawks know it’s how to party and have a good time.

Try to figure out which of them is more beautiful

Blackhawks alternate captain, and current Captain Handsome, Patrick Sharp took Lord Stanley’s Cup down to the South Side to enjoy some baseball at US Cellular Field (we still call it Comiskey).

Of course, Coach Quenneville brought the Cup to Wrigley Field to get the crowd jumping and to make sure that the Sox and the Cubs got equal amounts of love from the Blackhawks.

Make way, y'all!

Nick Leddy took the Cup to Minnesota to show Wild fans what a real hockey team can accomplish. The Stanley Cup had quite a day in Minnesota with Leddy.

Let's take a dip, Cup!

Of course, in the tradition of the Blackhawks being spectacular guys, Leddy took the Cup to brighten the day of patients at a local children’s hospital.

Just out brightening the day.

Everywhere Leddy went, his fans and fans of the Cup were right at his heels.

Andrew Shaw also got a day with the Stanley Cup. Naturally, he ended up sporting it behind bars because if you’re going to be the Blackhawks bad boy, you better do it right!

He also cruised around his hometown in Ontario with the Cup like a total stud.

Captain Toews got his day with the cup and after it had been to a Rush concert, a Jimmy Buffett concert, a parade, and two baseball games, among other activities, Toews took it out water skiing.

Like Nick Leddy and Coach Q, Jonathan Toews took the Cup to a children’s hospital and not only brightened the day of the children but also warmed all of the hearts ever.

The Cup Can Party, Y’all!

Act like professionals for the photo, boys. There are more fun photo ops to come.

Act like professionals for the photo, boys. There are more fun photo ops to come.

Now that hockey is over and the Blackhawks have brought the Stanley Cup to Chicago, there is only one thing that the team can do: properly treat the Stanley Cup to the best time an inanimate object can have in the Windy City! Of course, the entire team is up to the task of treating this fella right, but with this rowdy bunch of winners, we’re certain the Stanley Cup is having such a great time after just a week, he’ll want to renew his lease in a year. So, where has the Cup been?

Hello, I'm a professional and this is professional.

Hello, I’m a professional and this is professional and we are all professional and pretending having the Stanley Cup on this table isn’t the coolest thing ever.

Like the rest of us, the Stanley Cup has to do work before it heads out to party. Luckily, Coach Quenneville (aka “Hockey Ditka”) is a total hockey professional and knows that the Stanley Cup has to be a grown up and tour the news shows before it can go out and party.

You can eat one out of the other!

You can eat one out of the other!

Of course, the news rounds drew the party when Man B Que brought the party with a meat-based party snack Stanley Cup! So, let’s hope the Stanley Cup was used to help make a stew or hold a delicious dip or marinade.

After making visiting the usual morning show talking heads, the Cup gets to go out with the team, and they make sure to show Lord Stanley’s Cup a marvelous time.

"Top Ten Reasons Why The Blackhawks Rule!"

“Top Ten Reasons Why The Blackhawks Rule!”

Patrick Kane took a break from partying hard to take the Stanley Cup to visit David Letterman in New York. This is definitely the tamest time the Cup has spent with Kaner, The Party Mullet Monster in it’s week in Chicago.

Wasted away again in PatrickKanerville.

Wasted away again in PatrickKanerville.

The Stanley Cup accompanied Kaner onstage at a Jimmy Buffett concert where, we assume, it was filled with either margaritas or cheeseburgers in paradise.

Let's rock harder

Let’s rock harder

Not to be outdone by Patrick Kane, Keith and Carcillo took the Cup to a Rush show so it could recover from the beach ball volleying by getting rocked hard.

The Stanley Cup, no doubt, has many adventures ahead of it as the Blackhawks keep it in tow for a year of partying. Concerts, parades, and other events are certainly in its future here in Chicago and every citizen of the Windy City will have their eyes peeled to get their chance to be in the presence of Lord Stanley’s Cup. However, we can all agree that it’s greatest night was June 24 when it reflected the glow of champagne-soaked victory of the 2013 Chicago Blackhawks; it was definitely shining its brightest as it found itself in the glow and champagne spray surrounding Andrew Shaw.

Let's all get matching Andrew Shaw victory scream tattoos, Chicago!

Even though hockey is over, the Stanley Cup gives us a reason to keep celebrating until October when all our favorite guys hit the ice again, ready to defend their title. Show your support for Andrew Shaw with our selection of Andrew Shaw tee shirts and jerseys.

Party Hard and Welcome the New Class

We partied in the streets a week ago. We rested up to party in the streets at the Blackhawks rally on Friday. The Fourth of July parties will be starting at the end of this week. Yes, sports fans, it’s time to channel our inner Kaner this summer.

Party Like You Mean It!

Party Like You Mean It!

The Blackhawks rally got the City of Chicago amped for a summer of boozing, partying, and keeping an eye out for wherever Patrick Kane takes the Stanley Cup to party. The Blackhawks were ready to rock out on Friday; if you missed it, you missed the party-inspiring words of Corey Crawford:

“Fucking right, Chicago! Woo! Biggest bunch of beauties in the league, fucking worked their nuts off for this trophy!”

Macho Man Corey Savage has a bone to pick with you, HULK HOGAN!

Macho Man Corey Savage has a bone to pick with you, HULK HOGAN!

As the Blackhawks take their throne as the biggest sports team in the news, some stories about this great, amazing, Stanley Cup-hoisting team have fallen into the shadow of the high of victory. As we can all name the great players that helped Chicago reclaim Lord Stanley’s Cup, this past weekend brought two trades that have saddened many Blackhawks fans. The need to keep Bryan Bickell on the roster, the foresight necessary to manage money in order to renew Kane and Toews in the upcoming years, and the reality of keeping the pay cap free in order to recruit new talent and preserve current stars are the stars that aligned that determined the destiny of Dave Bolland and Michael Frolik, two incredible players that will now be headed away from Chicago to Canada.

Perhaps the looming trade is why The Rat was not having the best time at the rally.

Perhaps the looming trade is why The Rat was not having the best time at the rally.

The need to keep Bickell, a player who has been consistent and reliable all season, especially through the postseason, resigned to the Blackhawks with a four year contract extension at $16 million dollars (a pretty big jump from the $600,000 he earned this season). These trades will also make sure that superstars like Kane, Toews, and Sharp will be able to have a contract renewal when it’s time for them to head up to be traded.

Keeping Bickell is, clearly, an important priority. The other goal is to acquire talent that will live up to the legacy of the 2013 Chicago Blackhawks, the team that not only won the Stanley Cup but also had a record-breaking regular season. The draft allowed for the Blackhawks to add several new faces to the roster for next season. The Hawks snagged Carl Dahlstrom of Sweden, a reliable defensemen who possesses excellent shielding and board battle skills. However, Dahlstrom’s puck-handling is in need of polish, but this gain shows the Blackhawks are looking to strengthen their defensive line, something that gave them great trouble in the playoffs. They also grabbed Ryan Hartman, a player with the same style of Andrew Shaw and Bryan Bickell. He joins the Blackhawks after playing for the Plymouth Whalers with a 2013 season that racked up 37 assists and 60 points. This track record puts him on the road to being like Marian Hossa. The Blackhawks also picked up Anthony Lewis who scored 43 points in 53 games with the U18 squad. This left wing might be the smartest acquisition for the Blackhawks in the entire draft. Hopefully the new class will live up to the standard set by the 2013 roster of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Hockey doesn’t start up again until October, so we have a long time to party hard for the 2013 Chicago Blackhawks and even longer to unexpectedly meet the Stanley Cup somewhere in Chicago. From now until the Blackhawks hit the ice again, let’s party hard and represent our favorite players. Whether you are looking to celebrate classic players like Bobby Hull, former players like Dave Bolland, or current heroes like Andrew Shaw, Clark Street Sports has a vast selection of player jerseys and tee shirts to choose from so you can look fresh all summer continuing the celebration wave that is engulfing the Windy City. BLACKHAWKS!

In case you live under a rock, on the moon, or generally don’t have an understanding of the outside world and the events within it, something very extraordinary happened. Yes, something we’ve all been waiting for. Something so intense and magical that the world will be forever changed.

George Lucas got MARRIED!

FINALLY! THE DARKNESS IS OVER!

FINALLY! THE DARKNESS IS OVER!

This is the biggest news of the week.

OHHHH, that and the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Boston Bruins in the final two minutes of Game Six of the Stanley Cup playoffs and are now THE REIGNING STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS AND WIN FOREVER ON INFINITE EARTHS! SPORTS IS GOOD! SPORTS IS GOOD! SPORTS IS GOOD!

SPORTS IS SO DAMN GOOD!

SPORTS IS SO DAMN GOOD!

Coming out of pummeling the Bruins on Saturday, the Blackhawks traveled to Boston for Game Six. At first the game was steady and intense, but the intensity heightened when Andrew Shaw took a puck to the face in the first period.

Blackhawk down!

Blackhawk down!

The classy, upstanding citizens known as Bruins fans booed the disoriented and injured Shaw as he was helped off the ice. We feared that Shaw would be out for the game, but he returned. He returned and landed in the penalty box immediately because Boston roiled him up, now they had to deal with the Shaw we saw shout “I’ll f—ing kill you!” at the Wild, the Shaw who checked one of the Red Wings in the kidneys with his stick, and the Shaw we had not seen since the beginning of the playoffs.

Best behavior does not equate giving a shit

Best behavior does not equal giving a shit

Stitched up and skates laced, Shaw joined the rest of the Blackhawks in the second period where Captain Toews tied up the score. The third period had Chicago white-knucked and sweating. Boston took the lead and it seemed that Game Seven was inevitable with two minutes left in the game. Then, within 17.7 SECONDS OF EACH OTHER, Bryan Bickell tied up the score and, with a minute left, Dave “The Rat” Bolland scored the shot that won the Chicago Blackhawks Lord Stanley’s Cup.

Keep in mind, in 17.7 seconds the Blackhawks scored as many points against the Bruins as the Penguins did in their entire playoff series.

Every Blackhawk fan feels like this today (even through the hangover)

Every Blackhawk fan feels like this today (even through the hangover)

We won the Stanley Cup. We won the Stanley Cup with Patrick Sharp returning from a season of injuries to score more goals in the playoffs than he did during the regular season. We won the Stanley Cup with Patrick Kane shooting his way to being the highest-scoring player in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. We won with Corey Crawford overcoming the criticism and doubt of fans and being the most important asset to the Blackhawks in the playoffs. We won with Andrew Shaw and Bryan Bickell learning to reel in their rabid nature and focus that energy on being top-notch, reliable hockey players. We won Toews knowing his power with assists and allowing other players to shine. We won with Seabrook scoring crucial final goals in overtime. We won with Saad scoring his first ever playoff goal in the crucial first game against the Bruins. We won with the entire team taking down feared goalies like Jonathan Quick and Tuukka Rask. We won the Stanley Cup with Hossa, Frolik, Oduya, Stalberg, and Keith. We won the Stanley Cup with Dave Bolland recovering from a shaky playoff season to come back and score the game-winning goal that earned the Chicago Blackhawks the Stanley Cup.

nhl_g_hawkscup_gb1_576

We won because the Blackhawks are a team.

We won because the Blackhawks are a damn good team.

We won because no player is more important than any other player.

Because it’s the Cup.

In an era of sports where each team has a shimmering superstar glowing from the dull crown of the roster, the Chicago Blackhawks have no Lebron James, Derrick Rose, Derek Jeter, or Tom Brady. The metaphorical crown of the Blackhawks is blinding with equally-valuable jewels. They don’t rely on one member of the team exclusively; they rely on each other and play off of each other’s talents. For every Captain Toews jersey on Clark Street after Game Six ended, there were just as many Sharp, Bolland, Bollig, and Stalberg jerseys. Each player is important, and in the City of Big Shoulders, these shoulders stand strong because of the surrounding shoulders they have to rely on.

Blackhawks Win!

Blackhawks Win!

Blackhawks Win!

Blackhawks Win!

Blackhawks Win

Blackhawks Win!

Blackhawks Win!

Blackhawks Win!

Blackhawks Win!

Blackhawks Win!

Blackhawks Win!

Blackhawks Win!

The Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup because they are a solid powerhouse of talent. Congratulations, Chicago Blackhawks, thank you for a fantastic ride.

Peep the new whiz!

Peep the new shiz!

Now that it’s all over and the Chicago Blackhawks have won the Stanley Cup, all that’s left to do is party. Luckily, Clark Street Sports has a variety of Stanley Cup Championship shirts and hats to choose from for all of your Stanley Cup partying needs. We also have shirts so you can represent your favorite players like Andrew Shaw, Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Corey Crawford, Duncan Keith, and many more. Visit one of our many locations in the Chicago area or visit our website, http://www.clarkstreetsports.com, and nab a piece of hockey history before they’re all gone.

Sports Is Good!

Well, everyone, we’ve got a big weekend of sports coming at us, sports fans! Get that six pack! Find that recliner! Throw on your lucky jersey! It’s time to hunker down, grab some chicken wings, and pray for victory!

Unleash your untamed super fan TONIGHT!

Unleash your untamed super fan TONIGHT!

The Cubs and the White Sox bring some good, old fashioned summer baseball fun tonight. The Cubs play in New York and the White Sox are in Texas. Whether you’re a North Sider or a South Sider, you can agree that the boys of summer have returned and enjoy your beer and buddies with some baseball.

LeBron's still around, too.

LeBron’s still around, too.

This weekend also brings the fifth game between the Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs. With the series tied at 2-2, the fifth game promises to be another gut-wrenching trip into the depths of playoff insanity. If Tony Parker’s hamstring can heal up and hold up through game five, perhaps he can prevent Mario “Super Nintendo” Chalmers from tearing apart the court in the second half. If you have ever cheered for the Bulls in your life, now is the time to cheer for the Spurs.

Let's see this again, fellas!

Let’s see this again, fellas!

Of course, the most important sporting event of the weekend, is the second game of the Stanley Cup Finals. It is crucial that the Blackhawks win Game Two before headed to Boston for the ugly Game Three. Hopefully this game won’t go into an extra game of hockey, but if it does all of Chicago will be freaking out until the final period ends.

No matter what sport you’re throwing your heart and your vocal chords into this weekend, we have got the attire you need to unleash the super fan within! Visit one of our stores for a Crawford shirt or get your Shaw shirt online at http://www.clarkstreetsports.com.

Week In Sports Round Up

Let’s Make It Happen

Well, it has been an intense week for Chicago sports! Forget New York, Buffalo, or Philadelphia; Chicago is the greatest sports city in the world.

For one week in summer Chicago is a house divided.

For one week in summer Chicago is a house divided.

The Crosstown Classic was this week, and the Cubs came out on top. Though the Cubs swept the White Sox, the biggest news of the Crosstown Classic was the grand slam from pitcher Travis Wood. A rarity in baseball, the grand slam, followed by a homerun, launched the Cubs into the lead. Though the Sox are still in a better position overall, the Cubs victory this week was an energetic shot of fun for major league baseball and the city of Chicago.

No one will ever be tired of seeing this picture (well, except people in Detroit)

No one will ever be tired of seeing this picture (well, except people in Detroit)

Of course, the big sports news of this weekend is the Blackhawks advancing to play the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday. Game One begins on Saturday afternoon, kicking off what is sure to be another nail-biter series that gives the Windy City a collective aneurysm. The Kings have a strong defense, but with an average of two goals per postseason game their offense is a weakness the Blackhawks could exploit. Hopefully, the Blackhawks will be able to keep their offense strong in this series and clean this round up nicer than they did the Detroit series. Keeping tempers down, keeping penalties to a minimum, and keeping focused on the competition will push the Blackhawks ahead.

Bring it, Los Angeles!

Bring it, Los Angeles!

Finally, the Scripps Spelling Bee has come to an end and the spelling champion is Arvind Mahankali. Winning by spelling “knaidel,” which means “a small mass of leavened dough” (a word we all use at least six times a day).

Get The Gear!

Get The Gear!

As the next series starts, be sure to visit Clark Street Sports to get your “Because It’s The Cup” shirt and start cheering for our four-feathered Hawks flyin high!
